Ravelry is a knitting site. One would not think it would also help support the far right and their hate speech and discrimination of anyone who doesn’t hold the far right’s views, but Ravelry does. The owners will block anyone, for no reason at all, just on a mod’s asking. There is a group on there that is a far-right hate speech group. And the owners do anything that group asks them to do. It’s not pretty and it needs to stop.
They also support stalking and profiling. That should be noted. All under the guise of “it’s a free site, they can do what they want”.
Yup, sounds like the far-right hate groups out there. The only freedoms their interested in is the promotion of their hate speech and how they have a free right to that.

For the record, the owners of Ravelry don’t do the blocking. The mods of the individual groups can do the blocking themselves, eliminating TPTB’s participation. There seems to be no questions asked of it.
I guess I was blocked from using that forum early on, but I didn’t even know about it until someone PMed me and asked if I was blocked as well. I agreed with Casey on the “I could not care less about this” aspect – I was temporarily amused, but moved on quickly. I had most of the members of that particular forum on ignore anyway, as I have found their groups discussions aren’t good for my mental well-being. I also believe in getting more of a rise out of people by ignoring them and letting them work themselves into a tizzy about NOT getting a reaction.
Yeah, it’s really, really not worth getting upset about. Honestly, why should I care about being blocked from a group that I would never, ever have wanted to participate in in the first place? It’s not Rav’s owners supporting hate speech, not by a long shot.
The big problem I have is the “no quesitons asked”. That is just a recipe for trouble. These people are stalking, full out. Because I never posted there.
Blocking should only be a tool for proven trouble makers and mods should have to have evidence.
If I recall correctly, when the Rav owners first gave mods the tool to ban users, they said it was so that they wouldn’t have to get personally involved in the process, and that they were going to let mods use their own discretion. So I don’t think it’s that the Rav owner wants to support hate speech, it’s that he can’t change his policy with this one group without changing it for every group.
Hey Libi, Remember when you joined that group recently? They were in the midst of banning a whole large group of people. I think they then decided to look at new members and see if they could find anything that needed their attention. You belong to more than one Liberal group. They must have seen that and blocked you from participating. They don’t want to engage in any “Liberal education plan” so they pre-emptively barred you. don’t take it personally… cowards rarely want to engage.
Exactly, they want to pre-emptively prevent confrontation with anyone who might actually stand up to them. It’s a compliment, really.
